The project consist of a rebuild and expansion of the Goods clothing store in Copenhagen. The expansion has taken place by taking over the neighboring shop, which in this connection has been given a new oak window with brass cover plates, similar to the existing shop in the travertine-clad facade. In order to connect the two spaces, a 7.5 m2 wall hole has been cut, which has been lined with travertine panels corresponding to the facade. In the new room, a dividing wall has been established that separates a new back room and warehouse from the shop area. The former back room has been removed and incorporated into the shop space, where a small room with wc and washbasin for customers has been arranged in connection.
For the interior, new elements have been designed as an extension of the existing store interior. Added to the store: A round display table, a built-in wall cabinet with perforated doors, three hanger bars, a large mirror, a free-standing wardrobe in stained plywood, an extension of the existing sales counter and an overhead cabinet, two window openings with pinole-hinged brass safety grilles and radiator covers, and a door to the back room with an operable window above, which on warm days ensures the possibility of ventilating the store from the back room to the shop front. Oiled oak, brushed brass, smoked oak, Japanese ceramic tiles and sisal were used in the conversion and for the new elements. The wall surfaces in both new and old premises have been treated with a plaster with a warm gray shade that ties the rooms together. In the ceiling of the new extension, black transverse rafters with integrated light rails identical to those that were already in the existing shop ceiling have been installed. From here, lighting is handled via spotlights in addition with a few pendants in selected places, which create areas with a different atmosphere in the store.
The project was developed in close dialogue between client and Julius Nielsen OFFICE with the aim of creating a robust and long-lasting shop interior that supports the quality of shopping in a physical store.
