The Lié Studio Flagship Store marks the physical debut of a jewellery brand known for its significant online presence. Designed as one of two realised retail projects to date, the store posed a unique challenge: how to transform a purely digital success into an evocative spatial experience.
We began with a memory — the quiet anticipation when a jewellery box is opened and its contents catch the light. That fleeting moment of intimacy became the conceptual core of the project. How could we translate it into architecture?
At the centre of the space, we placed an oversized jewellery box: a sculptural volume in high-gloss lacquered madrona burl veneer, echoing the heirloom boxes of past generations. It doesn’t shout or display — it invites. Rather than laying everything bare, we chose to conceal, allowing curiosity to guide the visitor’s experience. This approach, uncommon in contemporary retail, asked for trust — and proved that withholding can, in the right context, be more powerful than revealing.
Around it, the space is composed as a quiet backdrop. A mosaic floor of end grain oak adds subtle texture and rhythm underfoot. The walls are framed by soft, custom-woven curtains developed with a Danish textile maker, bringing warmth, tactility, and controlled softness. A series of custom elements; fumed oak display trays, stainless steel hooks, and carefully selected furniture pieces complete the restrained palette — each element supporting the products without demanding attention.
In a time when commerce is often flattened into screen-based transactions, this project restores the sensory. It offers a space where physical presence is not just maintained, but heightened — where architecture invites attention, and discovery becomes the most persuasive gesture.
